Kentucky Kingdom Rally

By Shayla Reaves - Wave3

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The push continues to save Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. Louisville residents gathered in front of the amusement park to show their support Saturday afternoon. The gates closed two months ago when Six Flags and the Kentucky State Fair Board could not agree on a lease. The park employed many people who attended the weekend rally.

"I just checked my Facebook on my phone and I saw 'It really stinks what happened with Kentucky Kingdom,'" Former Employee Kelli Nunley said. " I texted somebody that I knew and said, 'Is this a joke?' And they were like 'No, they came in and padlocked the doors and we're out of a job.'"

Nunley and those who attended the rally said they want answers about the future of the park. Supporter Tim Childers wants the Kentucky Fair Board to provide an update to the public.

"We're kind of touchy on answers," said Childers who started an online grassroots effort through Facebook to save Kentucky Kingdom."We're all kind of guessing what's going on. I'd like to have them work with us and let them know we support them. We support the State Fair Board. We support everything that they're going to do."

Radio Station KISS FM worked with supporters who organized the Saturday rally. Program Director Mike Klein said the station's online petition received more than 1,000 signatures in support of Kentucky Kingdom.

"We all need to sit down and figure out how we can make Louisville a better city," Klein said. This right here, saving this park, is going to definitely help it."
